Additional Information

Four-Year Adjusted Cohort Graduation Rate

The four-year adjusted cohort graduation rate is the percentage of students in a cohort, adjusted for transfers into and out of the school, district, or state, who graduate with a regular high school diploma within four years of entering high school.

Any student who does not graduate with a regular high school diploma within four years will appear in the cohort as a non-graduate and will negatively impact the rate. A regular high school diploma means the standard high school diploma awarded to students that is fully aligned with the state’s academic content standards. It does not include GED diplomas, certificates of attendance, or any diplomas issued by non-state accredited private schools and homeschools. For this reason, it is important to remember that a non-graduate is not the same as a dropout.

The four-year cohort graduation rate formula for 2022 - 2023 is:

# 2023 graduates (# of cohort members earning a regular HS diploma by September 30, 2023)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------X100% = RATE
# of first-time 9th graders in fall 2019 plus transfers in minus students who transfer out, emigrate, or die during 2022-2023, 2021-2022, 2020-2021,and 2019-2020

Five-Year Adjusted Cohort Graduation Rate

The five-year cohort graduation rate is the percentage of students in a cohort, adjusted for transfers into and out of the school, district, or state, who graduate with a regular high school diploma within five years of entering high school. Any student who graduates during his/her fifth year of high school will appear as a non-graduate in the four-year cohort, but will count as a graduate in the five-year cohort.

The five-year cohort graduation rate formula for 2022 - 2023 is:

# 2023 graduates (# of cohort members earning a regular HS diploma by September 30, 2023)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------X100% = RATE
# of first-time 9th graders in fall 2018 plus transfers in minus students who transfer out, emigrate, or die during 2022-2023, 2021-2022, 2020-2021, 2019-2020, and 2018-2019
